The Rivers State Ministry of Health has called on healthcare professionals to treat cardiac arrest emergencies with the highest level of urgency and seriousness.
The warning was issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Mekele Igwe, during the South-South regional launch of the Nationwide Advanced and Basic Cardiac Life Support Workshop organized by the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors.
Dr. Igwe highlighted the critical importance of healthcare workers knowing the appropriate actions to take when confronted with a cardiac arrest, emphasizing that prompt and effective response can significantly improve survival outcomes.
In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director of Rivers State Teaching Hospital, Dr. Chizindu Alikor, pointed out that the training is especially vital given the increasing prevalence of cardiac-related deaths in the region, underscoring the need for enhanced skills among medical personnel.
Meanwhile, the President of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, Dr. Osundara Tope, stressed the importance of public awareness campaigns to educate ordinary citizens on how to respond effectively in life-threatening situations, including cardiac emergencies.
The workshop aims to equip healthcare providers with essential skills in life support techniques, ultimately improving emergency response and saving more lives across the South-South region.
