Rivers State Human Rights and Community Groups Support Ongoing Reconciliation Efforts to End Political Crisis

The coalition of human rights and community-based organizations in Rivers State has expressed strong backing for the ongoing reconciliation initiative aimed at resolving the persistent political crisis in the state. The groups emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability during this critical period.

While the reconciliation process is underway, the coalition called on all political actors to cease inflammatory statements, protests, and actions that could escalate tensions. They warned that such activities would be detrimental to the peace and development of Rivers State.

The organizations also urged indigenes of Rivers State to focus on de-escalating tensions by supporting efforts that promote dialogue and reconciliation. They emphasized that these efforts are vital for restoring democratic governance and ensuring the full functionality of state institutions.

In a joint statement, the coalition’s spokesman Peterside Nasigba, Secretary Ayanate West, and Dapasisi Oyibo, Chairman of the National Rescue Mission, commended the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, for choosing the path of peace and initiating reconciliation. They also praised the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, for actively engaging in dialogue to foster peace in the state.

The coalition’s support underscores the collective desire for stability and unity in Rivers State as efforts continue to resolve the political crisis peacefully.
