Rivers State Government received one hundred and thirty-four billion naira from Federation Account in 2016.

The figure forms part of two point six trillion naira shared among the thirty-six states of the federation from the Federation Account between January and December last year.

The revelation was made in a report of a research conducted by Economic Confidential, which disclosed that Rivers State ranked as the third highest earning states from the Federation Account.

Ahead of Rivers State is Lagos at the top, with one hundred and seventy-eight billion naira, and Akwa Ibom State, with one hundred and fifty billion naira for the same period.

The report by the intelligence economic magazine also placed Delta State at number four, with one hundred and twenty-six billion naira, while Kano State earned one hundred and eleven billion naira to finish fifth highest earner from the Federation Account for 2016.

The report notes that the five highest earning states combined to share a quarter of the total revenue distributed by the Revenue Allocation and Fiscal Committee during the period under the review.

However; there is a sharp contrast in revenue allocation to other oil producing states of Edo and Ondo, which stood at fifty-nine billion naira and seventy billion naira respectively, while Cross River State received fifty-five billion naira.

Gombe and Ebonyi States finished as the lowest earners of federal revenue, with forty-six and forty-seven billion naira respectively.

It was gathered that the revenue allocations to states and local government councils were influenced by population, derivation, landmass, terrain, revenue effort, school enrolments, health facilities, water supply and equality of the beneficiaries.
