A Port Harcourt based activist, PAT OBIENE, in reaction to the continuous killing in some parts of the state, commended the efforts of the government in the fight against crime especially the establishment of Operation Sting, but noted that all that would not have been necessary if the government had solved the root cause of the insecurity.
OBIENE who doubles as a Community Consultant said only little can be achieved by a government that has all the machinery to fight crime but fails to provide jobs and employment for its people, foster a sense of belonging in the people and recognize those with various forms of agitations and address them.
OBIENE, while blaming the recent insecurity on the attitude of government in handling the latest amnesty programme, called on government to stop patronizing what he called military gadgets but promote economic security.
Also speaking in an interview with correspondent UCHENDU EJIOWHOR, a security expert, Retired Colonel CHINEDU OWHONDA faulted the concentration of Operation Sting more in the urban areas rather than the rural communities where the issue of insecurity is more prevalent.
