Rivers NUT task Gov. Sim on new retirement age

The State Chairman of the NUT, Collins Echikpu in an interview with Today FM’S Uchendu Ejiowhor, used the opportunity to request that the governor approves the employment of more teachers for the primary, universal basic education and secondary schools.

Echikpu while felicitating with the governor on his victory at the Supreme Court, complained that primary and secondary schools do not have enough teachers, which he said has hindered academic improvements in the state.

He expressed the teachers resolve to continuously support and remain steadfast in the administration of the governor, just as he assured of the teachers’ readiness to carry out their responsibilities with the ultimate aim of creating robust working relationship in the state.

It would interest you to know that a visit by Today FM’S correspondents to Abua Odua, Ahoada East and West and Khana Local Government Areas of the state revealed the poor state of educational facilities and manpower, and in Khana where eighty percent of teachers are volunteers.
