Rivers Government Orders Probe into Alleged Extortion at College of Nursing Sciences

The Rivers State Government has ordered an investigation into allegations of extortion and other forms of misconduct at the Rivers State College of Nursing Sciences.

The allegations include claims of bribery in exchange for guaranteed examination passes, project approvals, and other academic-related favours.

Speaking on the development, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh, said the state government will not tolerate corruption in any of its institutions, stressing that accountability remains a priority of the administration.

Dr. Oreh announced the تشکیل of a five-member investigative panel, to be chaired by Professor Chizindu Alikor, to thoroughly probe the allegations and make appropriate recommendations.

She further disclosed that the head of the affected department has been suspended with immediate effect, pending the outcome of the investigation. The commissioner also encouraged students and other stakeholders with relevant information to come forward and testify before the panel.

The government assured that anyone found culpable would be sanctioned in line with existing laws and regulations.
