The Rex Lawson Next Generation Talent Hunt 2025 officially commenced in spectacular fashion on Tuesday at Mozy B Café along Harbour Road, Port Harcourt. The two-day event brought together nine talented contestants who took to the stage to showcase their passion, rhythm, and raw energy through Highlife music performances, aiming to impress a distinguished panel of judges including Port Harcourt’s own Arthur People Jr., Mozy B, and the Elegant Lady IB.
Six contestants advanced to the second round, with Belema Johnbull, Samuel Dateme, and Ameyeofori Jaja emerging as the top three finalists. These finalists will compete for the grand prize during the event’s grand finale and awards presentation scheduled for May 18th, 2025.
In addition to the musical performances, the event featured a special documentary by Kaka Benson, celebrating the life and legendary achievements of the late King of Highlife, Cardinal Rex Jim Lawson. The celebration of his legacy aims to inspire emerging artists and preserve Niger Delta’s rich musical heritage.
Further festivities include a 4-team All-Star Football Competition set for Saturday, May 17th, 2025, at the Sharks Football Stadium, Civic Centre, Port Harcourt, fostering community engagement through sports.
Organized by the Kelvin Gigi Foundation and powered by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), the Rex Lawson Next Generation Talent Hunt continues to honor the legendary musician’s legacy by spotlighting emerging talent, promoting Niger Delta culture, and uniting the community through entertainment and sport.
