Residents of Rumuolumeni in Obioakpor Local Government Area have expressed outrage over an ongoing power outage that has severely affected businesses and social activities in their community. The hardest-hit neighborhoods include Mgbuodohia, Nkpor, and surrounding areas.
The community members lamented that despite remaining without power for months, the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) continues to send them estimated bills, which they deem to be exorbitant and unjustified.
Speaking to our reporter, Emelda Ifeme, residents stated that their hardship worsened following recent increases in petrol prices, making it increasingly difficult to rely on generators for power.
On behalf of the community, Felix Chinda, the Youth Chairman of Rumuolumeni, accused PHED of failing to honor an earlier agreement made with community representatives. The residents called for urgent intervention to restore reliable power supply and for transparency in billing practices.
