Report: Underage street trading on the increase in Rivers State

However, poverty and hunger have been identified as contributory factors giving rise to the practice.

Our correspondent Stella Saasongu encountered some under-aged street traders in Port Harcourt who said they hawk on the street in order to support their parents.

The respondents who are between the ages of thirteen and fourteen also narrated some of the dangers they face while hawking on the major roads.

Speaking on the issue, a Child Rights Activist, Debora Effiong said the practice exposes the children to enormous dangers.
