Pres Buhari presents 2017 budget to National Assembly.

.Our correspondent JAMES IGAH reports that the 2017 Budget stands at seven point two-nine-eight trillion naira.

The figure is predicated on crude oil benchmark of forty-two point five dollars per barrel, as well as exchange rate of three hundred and five naira to a dollar.

Capital Expenditure received thirty point seven percent of the budget sum, which is meant to pull the economy out of recession.

The Ministry of Power, Works and Housing received the biggest allocation, which stands at five hundred and twenty billion naira.

In his presentation; President BUHARI stressed that the agricultural policy of the government in the next fiscal yeast will focus on integrated development.

The President also emphasized the need to achieve the goal of job creation by improving the skills of the labour force.

Furthermore; the 2017 Budget provides support for primary healthcare and expansion of the National Health Insurance Scheme.

President BUHARI said loans scheme would also be provided to support traders and artisans, just as attention would be given to a social housing scheme.

President BUHARI concluded his presentation with an assurance to the Legislature that there would be no issue of budget padding as witnessed during the consideration of the 2016 Budget.

Earlier in his opening remarks; the Senate President, BUKOLA SARAKI reminded the Executive that the Budget was just a proposal like any other bill.
