Electricity consumers have often time complained of being forced to offset the accumulated electricity bills of previous tenants in a building they recently moved into.
Addressing the issue, the Managing Director of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, Benson Uwheru, explained that the PHED has no business with tenants, but with the building.
Uwheru however noted that the new tenants are expected to pay the electricity bill accumulated in the structure.
The position of PHED however did not sit right with some residents of Port Harcourt who spoke with Today FM’s Ifunanya Obeme-Ndukwe.
The respondents maintained that it is the responsibility of landlords to ensure that tenants moving out from their properties leave no unpaid electricity bills.
