Oil-bearing communities in Ogoniland have called on oil and gas companies operating in the region to create platforms that allow for active participation of host communities in their operations.
The President of Ogoni oil-bearing communities, Donald Gberesuu, made the call shortly after a stakeholder engagement meeting organized by Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited in Port Harcourt.
He emphasized that involving host communities in decision-making processes would foster transparency, trust, and cooperation, ultimately reducing tensions and conflicts in the region.
Gberesuu noted that many disputes between companies and communities arise due to a lack of engagement and exclusion of local stakeholders. He urged companies to adopt more inclusive approaches to ensure peaceful coexistence and sustainable operations.
