NYCOP Calls Out Sahara Group Over Unmet Corporate Social Responsibilities in Baan-Goi

The National Youth Council of Ogoni People (NYCOP) has raised concerns over what it describes as the alleged failure of Sahara Group of Companies to fulfill its Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) in Baan-Goi community, Tai Local Government Area.

Speaking to journalists, NYCOP President, Nwibani Raymond-Marcus, lamented that the residents of Baan-Goi, the host community of Sahara Group, have been left without power for an extended period. He warned that if the company fails to comply with the provisions of the Local Content Act, he would mobilize Ogoni youths to stage a peaceful protest.

Additionally, Barry Godfrey, the NYCOP Kingdom Coordinator for the Baan-Goi Special Unit in Tai LGA, called on Sahara Group to prioritize employment opportunities for local residents in managerial positions and to restore electricity supply to the community.

The youth leaders emphasized the need for the company to uphold its responsibilities and foster development within the host community.
