The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has suspended train operations on the Abuja-Kaduna route until further notice.
NRC Managing Director, Kayode Opeifa, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Abuja, hours after the incident. He said technical staff of the corporation, in collaboration with the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau and other relevant agencies, have commenced investigations into the derailment.
Opeifa dismissed claims that the trains were in poor condition, assuring that refunds have been initiated for all passengers on board. He added that six passengers who sustained minor injuries have since received medical treatment.
