The worsening state of the Nkpolu/Rumuigbo road in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area has become a source of frustration for residents, road users, and commercial drivers, who say the dilapidated road is crippling their daily activities and businesses.
Those who spoke to our correspondent described the road as nearly impassable, with deep potholes, eroded sections, and worsening floods making movement extremely difficult, especially during rainfall.
Some commercial drivers lamented that their vehicles frequently break down due to the terrible road conditions, leading to increased repair costs and loss of income. Business owners in the area also complained of reduced patronage as customers avoid the flooded and muddy terrain.
Residents of Nkpolu-Rumuigbo are now calling on the Rivers State Government to urgently intervene and rehabilitate the road before the situation leads to further economic and safety challenges.
“We are suffering. The road is destroying our vehicles, our businesses are dying, and the flooding makes it worse every time it rains,” one resident said.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the Rivers State Ministry of Works.
