Nigerians condemn purchase of SUV’s for house of Reps members

A Port Harcourt based Youth Activist, Charles Jaja in an interview with Today FM, accused members of the national Assembly and the political class of being insensitive to the welfare of other Nigerians.

Jaja while recalling how President Bola Tinubu removed fuel subsidy and asked Nigerians to bear the pains, questioned why members of the national Assembly would not also bear such pain.

He further called on the President to prevail on the  National Assembly members not to take delivery of the vehicles.

Recall that the Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Akin Rotimi, who confirmed the distribution, said the vehicles are utility operational 2023 model Prado SUVs and are tied to their oversight functions and to be used in the discharge of their duties in the standing committees.

He also said the SUVs are not personal vehicles and would remain the property of the National Assembly at the expiration of the tenure of the 10th Assembly in 2027, but members have the option of making payment for the outstanding value of the vehicles to government coffers to claim ownership.
