Nigerian Senate Speeds up New Legislation to Check Underground Recruitment into Federal Civil Service

A bill to that effect has passed second reading, with the sponsor, Senator ABIODUN OLUJIMI leading the debate on the general principles of the legislation.
Senator OLUJIMI said the legislation intends to put in place clear procedure for recruitment into the Federal Civil Service where all Nigerians would have equal opportunity, and to curb the trend of underground employment of federal workers.
Our correspondent JAMES IGAH reports that the bill received popular support from the Senators present at plenary, with Senator JAMES MANAGER from Delta State also lending his voice in support of the legislation.
In his ruling, the Senate President, BUKOLA SARAKI stressed the need for the Senate to fast-track the passage of the bill to curb the rate of illegal recruitment into the federal civil service.
After the second reading, the bill was referred to the Senate Committee on Establishments and Public Service for further legislative work, which is mandated to report back in four weeks.
