Chief of the Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, while speaking at the induction of the gunboats, said the four armoured gunboats were built by the Naval Shipyard Limited, NSL, PortHarcourt.
Irabor said the new platforms will provide the necessary protection to troops patrolling the country’s maritime environment to prevent internal and external threats.
He added that the inauguration of the locally built gunboats confirmed the determination of the armed forces to eliminate all illegalities and crimes in the country’s maritime space.
Taking delivery of the gunboats, Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo said the NSL has the manpower and expertise to build ships, boats and barges, among others.
