Nigerian Navy Arrests Suspected Illegal Oil Refiners in Bonny

The Nigerian Navy has apprehended several suspects involved in illegal oil refining during a recent operation in the Oputumbi Community of Bonny Local Government Area. The operation, aimed at curbing illegal activities in the region, resulted in the seizure of a wooden boat laden with products believed to be illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil.

Lieutenant Commander Siraj Al-Mustapha, the Base Operations Officer of the Nigerian Navy in Bonny, briefed journalists on the operation, stating that the arrests align with the naval objectives set forth by the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, to eliminate illegal oil refining in the area.

Following the operation, the suspects were handed over to the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps in Bonny. Lieutenant Commander Al-Mustapha confirmed that his team is implementing strategies to discourage illegal oil refining practices and ensure the security of the local environment.

The suspects and the confiscated items were officially received by Mamah Sunday, the Divisional Officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps in Bonny Local Government Area. The Navy’s ongoing efforts underscore a commitment to combating illegal oil activities and promoting lawful practices in Nigeria’s oil sector.
