Nigeria heads to one-party state as Delta leads other states to APC

Delta State has just been declared an APC state, and is seen as leading others soon into the federal ruling party.

Other states said to be close include Akwa Ibom and Rivers. This may signal the advent of one-party system in Nigeria even as others say the beginning of family perpetuity.

Detail.

James Manager, the pioneer chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, Tuesday, revealed that the ruling party in the state has collapsed it’s structure and membership, for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Manager who is former Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District in the National Assembly,
made the revelation at a press briefing held at the Government House, Asaba.

Manager spoke in company of Charles Aniagwu, Commissioner for Works (rural) and Public Information and Festus Ahon, the chief press secretary (CPS) to the governor.

Aniagwu who spoke on behalf of the group said the defection of the PDP membership and leadership to the APC, was aimed at strengthening the state’s capacity to achieve the developmental policies of the current dispensation.

“It would help us to deliver effectively in the promises that our governor has made to advance the course of development in our dear state.

“If you want any other discussion as to the breech of our democracy, maybe that would be at another forum.”

This development has confirmed several rumours that Governor Sherrif Oborevwori was planning to defect from the PDP to the the APC.

Oborevwori and some other PDP top members had at various fora supported President Bola Tinubu’s administration, a situation that gave signal to political pundits that the governor and his team may defect to the ruling party at the center.

Oborevwori through Aniagwu and Latimore Oghenesivbe, the director-general of the state Orientation and Communications Bureau (DSOCB) kept denying, saying there was no reason to decamp.

However, Oborevwori’s recent open endorsement of President Tinubu for a second tenure in 2027 gave more reasons to ignore the governor’s denials.
