Nigeria and Lille forward Victor Osimhen joins Italian club Napoli on a 5-year deal

Osimhen who has scored 18 goals in 38 appearances for Lille in all competitions signed a 5-year contract with the Stadio San Paolo side.

“Can’t wait to put on this iconic jersey, thank you for the warm welcome Napoli,” wrote Osimhen on Twitter.

The 21-year-old Nigerian striker becomes one of the most expensive African players of all time and Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis says Lille ‘will receive circa €80m’ for Victor Osimhen, who was a main target for Gennaro Gattuso, and the player will earn ‘€4-4.5m’ per year.

“Lille will receive circa €80m, while the player over the years will get between €4m and €4.5m per season,” he said.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the actual cash fee is only €47.5m net (€50m gross), with another €10m in hard to get bonuses, plus four players put together and valued at €20m.

These are goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis, plus youth team players Claudio Manzi, Ciro Palmieri and Luigi Liguori.

Osimhen already passed his medical in Rome on July 18 and will be presented to the media in Naples after his summer vacation.

He will wear the Number 9 jersey, which is currently held by Fernando Llorente.

The negotiations had dragged on throughout the summer, with the drama of a dispute with his agent, then having to resume the talks with a different representative.

Despite Premier League rumours, particularly Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United, Napoli were the only club to make a genuine offer for the 21-year-old.
