WIKE CONDEMNS D.S.S AND PRESIDENCY

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has condemned the security blockade of the National Assembly.

 

Governor Wike therefore called on Nigerians to resist what he called an assault on the legislature and dictatorship by the APC-led Federal Government.

 

In a statement released by his Special Assistant on Electronic Media, Simeon Nwakaudu, Governor Wike observed that the security siege on the National Assembly has the capacity to truncate Nigeria’s democracy.

 

Governor Wike encouraged the National Assembly members to stand firm in defence of the nation's democracy by resisting anti-democratic attempts against the parliament.

 

He also berated some state governors who appear happy with what is happening under the APC government, warning that they could face their turn tomorrow.

 The Rivers State Government says a cartel that benefits from the illegal refining of crude oil is responsible for the prevailing black soot pollution in the state.

 

The Commissioner for Health, Professor Princewell Chike, also said the government has taken a leading role to curb activities that contribute to the pollution.

 

Professor Chike gave this indication at the Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of Nigerian Medical Association in Port Harcourt.

 

Speaking on behalf of Governor Nyesom Wike, the Health Commissioner also disclosed that government has concluded arrangements for the acquisition of Mobile Screening Equipment to screen patients for illnesses that may arise from soot pollution.

 

Professor Princewell Chike expressed displeasure over the level of environmental degradation in some of communities, including Degema, Gokana, Kula and Beele, due to illegal refining activities.

The Rivers State Police Command has paraded suspected criminals who were arrested in different parts of the state over the past one month.

The State Commissioner of Police, Zaki Ahmed told newsmen at the Command Headquarters in Port Harcourt that the arrests were mainly made by operatives of Federal-Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

CP Ahmed said those in custody include members of an armed robbery gang who were caught in their hideout around Ada-George area of Port Harcourt.

He said the F-SARS operatives also smashed a kidnap gang behind most incidents of abductions for ransom around Obio-Akpor and Port Harcourt local government areas.

POLICE CONFIRMS DEATH OF POLICEMEN

 The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the killing of two policemen by armed robbers along Rumuosi-Ozuoba link road in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area.

 

The Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni told our correspondent that a suspected member of the criminal gang was also shot dead in the encounter last night.

 

Omoni, who is a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the criminals opened fire on the police personnel who were on stop-and-search operations along the road, and carted away their firearms.

 

DSP Omoni said the State Commissioner of Police, Zaki Ahmed, has ordered an investigation of the incident.

WIKE CRITICISES IKWERRE POLITICIANS

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has criticized some politicians of the Ikwerre ethnic nationality for playing politics with the people.

 

Governor Wike observed that such persons who play politics with the Ikwerre ethnic nationality do so for personal advantage and turn around to disown the group when it no longer suit them.

 

The Governor gave this indication in his remarks during a funeral service at St Peter's Anglican Church in Rumuepirikom over the weekend.

GOVERNMENT TO AID OMUOK-ALUU - DEKOR

Respite is underway for the people of Omuok-Aluu, in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State who have been battling with the problem of flooding in the area

 

The Commissioner for Works, Dum Dekor, said the state government was aware of the flood situation at Omuoko village as a result of heavy rainfall, which he attributed to skeletal work by the contractor handling the road project in the area.

 

Dekor said the peculiar terrain of Rivers State makes it difficult for smooth construction of roads, adding that the issue of flooding will soon be a thing of the past at Omuoko-Aluu, immediately the road was completed.

Senate President Bukola Saraki has urged Nigerians not to lose focus and hope, saying that the country will eventually work.

 

Senator Saraki was speaking during the commissioning of Obiri-Ikwerre Airport Road in Port Harcourt.

 

The Senate President in reaction to his Supreme Court verdict regretted those three years that were wasted trying to fight him.

 

He noted that the three wasted years would have been used for the development of Nigeria just as he charged Nigerians to continue to fight for the development of the country. 

 

 

On his part, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike stated that with the Senate President, Nigerians irrespective of their political affiliation will continue to fight the forces of darkness.

 

He called for the upholding of the rule of law across all tiers of government, saying that is the only way to attain progress in the country.

 

While berating the Federal Authorities for using EFCC to illegally probe the finances of Rivers State despite a subsisting court judgement yet to be vacated by a higher court, Governor Wike condemned the Executive Order on corruption which he said is unconstitutional.

 

In the meantime, Senate President, Bukola Saraki, will today lead a National Assembly Delegation to Washington D.C, United States of America, on a Parliamentary visit.

 

Leaders of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan, and the Minority Whip, Senator Philip Aduda, as well as other selected members of the National Assembly are part of the delegation.

 

In a statement by Saraki’s Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Bamikole Omishore, the visit, among others, is meant to strengthen parliamentary and diplomatic relationship between Nigeria and the United States.

 

During the trip, Senator Saraki is expected to deliver a speech on Nigeria-US Relations and opportunities at the Council on Foriegn Relations while the delegation is expected to meet with the U.S. State Department and USAID Officials to discuss Energy Development, Health, Education, Gender Development Initiatives and Agriculture.

Governor Tambuwal said this while inaugurating the Rivers State University Medical College.

 

The Sokoto State Governor advised leaders in the country to deemphasize politics of violence, ethnicity and rather focus on politics of development to move the country forward.

 

On his part, host Governor, Nyesom Wike who recalled move by former Governor Rotimi Amaechi to relocate the university, said the College of Medical Sciences is to fulfill the dream of the institution, just as he assured that the government will ensure that the university becomes one of the best in the country.

 

Governor Wike also denied claims by Amaechi about projects commissioning in Rivers state.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesome Wike has announced the immediate takeover of Nyemoni Grammar School, Abonnema in Akuku Toru Local Government Area of the state.

                          

Governor Wike who made the announcement during the commissioning of the newly reconstructed secondary school, which is being managed by the missionary, said the decision to take over the school was to remove the burden from the mission.

 

He also directed the Chairman of the Post Primary Schools Board to immediately post a principal and other staff to the school.
