The management of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company has expressed surprise over the allegation by some electricity workers that it was planning to sack about one hundred staff of the company.

The PHEDC said it is not aware of any move by the management to sack staff members.

The management said it is particularly surprised because it has repeatedly offered a hand of friendship and an open door policy to dialogue with the union in the pursuit of the shared objective of promoting the welfare of staff.

It said the union did not take advantage of the open door policy to verify the reports which it described as unfounded.

According to a statement issued by its Manager of Corporate Communications John Onyi, the PHEDC recently reviewed the organizational structure where all staff were strategically aligned for improved service delivery.

It added that the move was intended only to streamline the workforce for value optimisation with no iota of truth to the suggestion of staff right sizing at this time.

The statement reiterated PHEDC’s commitment in promoting industrial harmony with the union while calling for a collaborative approach from the union in the handling of staff matters.
