Police in Kenya have arrested a journalist over a report exposing corruption at the country’s Interior Ministry. JOHN NGIRACHU is a senior reporter of Kenya’s biggest-selling Daily Nation newspaper, and his report uncovered outrageous spending by civil servants. Reuters news agency reports that the newspaper publication had raised pressure on President UHURU KENYATTA, who promised to tackle rampant corruption in the country. Reacting to the arrest, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper, TOM MSHINDI said the action by the police marks an attempt by the authorities to intimidate the press and stifle free speech. Media reports said the arrested journalist has since been released yesterday evening.
