Oyo PDP challenge Malami over disbandment of LGs caretaker committees

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has challenged the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, ABUBAKAR MALAMI, over his order for the disbandment of local government caretaker committees in Oyo State.


PDP in Oyo State urged the caretaker committees to disregard the order.


The party described the order as unexpected of the number one legal officer of the Federation.


The position of the PDP is contained in a statement by its spokesperson, AKEEM OLATUNJI, who said that the Constitution did not empower the President or his agents to withhold funds due to a federating unit or even the National Judicial Council.


The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, ABUBAKAR MALAMI had said the Local Government Caretaker Committees in Oyo State should be dissolved.


The directive of the AGF was contained in a letter issued by the Minister and addressed to the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Oyo State, OYEWO OYELOWO.


MALAMI said the directive is in view of the decision of the Supreme Court on the matter that is binding on all thirty six States of the Federation.


Governor SEYI MAKINDE after he was sworn in as Oyo State Governor, dissolved the elected local government executives in the state, a year into their administration and inaugurated caretaker committees for the thirty three local governments and thirty five Local Council Development Areas in the state.
