The Nigeria Police Force has assured Muslims across the country that they are at liberty to carry out the annual “Ashura” procession.

The force, which gave the assurance in a statement signed by its spokesman, DCP FRANK MBA, noted that the ban on procession across the country only applied to members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN.

He said the clarification became necessary owing to numerous enquiries over the ban on procession on the proscribed Islamic Movement in Nigeria.

The force spokesman however assured muslims that they are free to mark the commemoration of “Ashura” throughout the country along with their counterparts across the world.

He further advised them to do so within the confines of the law and also to guard against infiltration by unscrupulous elements who may want to take advantage of the event to cause disruption of public peace, order and security.
