Dozens of migrants have been declared missing following the capsizing of their rubber boat off the coast of Libya.

Officials said about sixty-three migrants disappeared after the incident east of Tripoli on Sunday, while forty-one people have been rescued.

The latest incident puts the number of missing migrants in the Mediterranean Sea since Friday last week at about one hundred and seventy.

The International Organization for Migration observed that there is an alarming increase in deaths at sea off Libya's coast.

IOM's Libya Chief of Mission Othman Belbeisi said more than one thousand people have died while sailing from Libya to Europe so far this year.
