The Rivers State Government has made good its threat to demolish structures obstructing the rights of way of the Woji-Akpajo Road in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area.

Our correspondent reports that the Commissioner for Works, DUM DEKOR, led officials to oversee the demolition exercise today but left after appeals for more time by some of the owners.

Speaking with newsmen at the site, DUM DEKOR alleged that some property owners along the Woji-Akpajo Road had connived with government officials to delay the exercise.

The Commissioner warned that the demolition team would return to the area on Friday to continue with the exercise after some individuals pleaded for leniency.

The move comes after the Works Commissioner disclosed that owners of structures marked for demolition had been compensated and given enough time to pull them down themselves but failed.
