The Senator behind the call for the activation of impeachment process against President MUHAMMADU BUHARI has reported an alleged assault on him by hoodlums back home in Edo State.
Senator MATTHEW URHOGIDE of the PDP came under Order Forty-Three of the Senate Standing Rule to complain about alleged molestation and assault he suffered from those he called recruited hoodlums.
Ruling on the motion, the Nigerian Senate condemned attacks on legislators for expressing their views on the floor of the parliament.
The Senate President, BUKOLA SARAKI also mandated the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police to engage with the Nigeria Police Force on the matter and report progress subsequently.
Senator SARAKI emphasized that the Legislative Powers and Privileges Act gives lawmakers immunity on their views in the chambers.
