The Nigerian media has been tasked to create more awareness on the constitution amendment issues and sustain public discourse ?of issues on the constitution that are up for amendment as it affects citizens.

Stakeholders at a one day media and civil society advocacy technical session ?on constitutional review in Abuja stressed on the need for the media to deepen democracy by providing platforms to generate healthy debate around the constitution amendment and increase space for citizens in policy process.

 

One of the key items on the constitution amendment that generated debate at the session was the Distributive Pool Account which seeks to abrogate the State Joint Account Allocation Committee and empower each local government to maintain its own special accounts through which funds will be paid directly from the federation account.

 

Some stakeholders raised concerns about possible abuse of the process by the Local government authorities.
