The Nigerian Health system may be crippled in the next two weeks if the federal government does not meet up with the demands of the health workers.

This is because the health workers under the umbrella of the Joint Health Sector Union of Nigeria have threatened to commence an indefinite nationwide strike starting from September 30.

The Rivers State Chairman of the JOHESU Doctor CHRIS MBATA who disclosed this said September 30 will mark the end of the thirty days ultimatum issued by the union to the federal government.

Speaking in an interview with correspondent CHINEDU IWUNNA, MBATA said JOHESU is not happy that the federal government was paying more attention to the plights of striking Resident Doctors while neglecting the demands of JOHESU.

the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives has issued a strike notice to the Federal Government.

The development was contained in a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the Union, ALIYU SHEHU.

SHEHU said the notice became necessary following the inability of government to resolve issues in the health sector including administration, practice, headship, representation, benefits, and welfare of all stakeholders in the industry.

The union urged the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in the health sector to ensure a comprehensive resolution of all matters plaguing the sector.

The association listed some of their demands to include chronic shortage of both general and specialized manpower in the various institutions, provision of medical consumables and services, stagnation, re-designation, and demotion of members.
