Several people have been reported injured, with unverified claims of deaths, in a physical confrontation between Nigerian Army troops and members of the Indigenous People of Biafra in Abia State.

Our correspondent gathered that the clashes happened at Afara-Ukwu in Umuahia, which is the hometown of IPOB leader, NNAMBI KANU.

Report say trouble started after troops manning Armoured Personnel Carrier entered the town in an alleged bid to arrest the IPOB leader, although the soldiers said they were only test-driving their APC.

The Abia State Police Command confirmed the fracas in a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, GEOFFREY OGBONNA.

The Command spokesman confirmed that a policeman, a soldier and a woman identified as GRACE NWOKEUKWU of Umuobasi lsiama Afara, sustained machete cuts and were taken to the Police Clinic in Umuahia for treatment.
