Aggrieved youths of Rumuji community in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State yesterday returned to the premises of Green Vee oil company for a second day of protest.

You will recall that the aggrieved youths yesterday clashed with security operative when they stormed the company gate to register their grievances over alleged unfair treatment by the management.

But instead of listening to them, the soldiers on guard duty fired live bullets at the protesters, leaving some of them with gunshot wounds.

Our correspondent UCHENDU EJIOWHOR reports that the protesting youths today blocked the company gate with their local drums and fresh palm leaves.

The leader of the protesters, FEDINAND OCHIA-KAS told our correspondent that they decided to continue with the protest because of their members who were shot by soldiers yesterday.

OCHIA-KAD also alleged that the management of the company failed to respond to calls for negotiation with the community on ways to ensure that Rumuji youths are engaged in employment and paid adequately.

Our correspondent reports that security surveillance has been stepped up around Green Vee premises, but efforts to speak to management officials did not produce any result.
