all but five passengers who were kidnapped from a commercial bus travelling from Port Harcourt to Owerri yesterday have been freed.

The remaining five persons are those whom the kidnappers believe they could demand more money in ransom through their family members.

The driver of the ill-fated bus who gave his name as AFONYA DAN-JUMBO told our correspondent that the kidnappers released fifteen of them, including thirteen passengers.

This revelation is contrary to the claim by the Police Public Relations Officer, NNAMDI OMONI that the kidnapped victims were freed by men of the police tactical team.

Speaking further, the driver said they were released after the kidnappers collected their mobile phones and ATM cards and withdrew cash from their bank accounts.

He also disclosed that they were severely tortured by the kidnappers, while some of the female passengers were raped by the hoodlums in a bid to force them to reveal the identities of their wealthy relatives.

That was the driver of the vehicle that was ambushed and the entire occupants kidnapped yesterday around Isiokpo in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
