Israeli jets have reportedly attacked a military base in the west of Syria, amid claims that a chemical weapons factory was hit.

The Syrian army made this known in a statement claiming that rockets were fired from Lebanese airspace at the site near Masyaf, killing two soldiers.

But the army statement did not mention that a chemical weapons production facility was hit in the attack, as claimed in unconfirmed Arab media reports, while Israel has not commented on the incident.

You will recall that United Nations investigators had concluded that the Syrian government was behind a deadly chemical weapons attack on a rebel-held town in April.

The attack killed at least eighty three people, but the regime in Damascus has always denied using chemical weapons.
