The National Emergency Management Agency has called for the immediate relocation of residents of communities along rivers and waterways, as well as low-lying areas that are prone to flooding. NEMA gave the advice in view of the increasing intensity of the rainy season with its attendance consequences of flooding, to avoid unnecessary loss of lives.

The National Emergency Management Agency has called for the immediate relocation of residents of communities along rivers and waterways, as well as low-lying areas that are prone to flooding. NEMA gave the advice in view of the increasing intensity of the rainy season with its attendance consequences of flooding, to avoid unnecessary loss of lives. In a statement issued by the agency, the Director General of NEMA, MUHAMMAD SANI SIDI said it has since embarked on mitigation and preventive measures against the hazard of flooding.  

According to the statement released by NEMA’s Information Officer, SANI DATTI, the DG urged state and local government authorities to always march early warning with early actions. MUHAMMAD SANI SIDI called for the introduction of flood control program such as clearing of drainage channels to ensure free flow of water.
