TURKEY: The upsurge of violence has claimed the lives of at least five members of the country’s security forces in the south-east and Istanbul. The BBC reports that four police officers were killed by a bomb on a road in Sirnak province, just as gunmen killed a soldier after opening fire on a military helicopter. The attacks come amid rising tension between the Turkish government and Kurdish militants. It has also emerged that one of the Istanbul attacks that targeted the US consulate, was carried out by two women linked to a far-left group. Military helicopters have bombed Kurdistan Workers' Party targets in retaliation for the attack on a military helicopter in Sirnak province.
