The Paramount Ruler of Tai Kingdom made the remark against the backdrop of the delay in the implementation of the United Nations Environmental Programme report on the clean-up of Ogoniland over the past four years. The Gbenemene Tai said he would be glad to see the report implemented, and stressed the need for Ogoni people to speak in one voice, especially on the issue of insecurity. Speaking on the sideline of the event in Bori; the President of the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People, LEGBOSI PIAGBARA said the group has commenced talks with the Federal Government on the UNEP Report.
The Ken Saro Wiwa Associates says it has gone to court to seek an order to compel the Federal Government and Shell Petroleum Development Company to conduct a reassessment of the UNEP report before the implementation. The Coordinator of the group, GANI TOBA said it would be unfair to implement a report that was conducted four years ago, adding that some changes could have happened to the environment since the report was compiled.
