The River State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja today rule on motions and applications on the petition of Social Democratic Party and its candidate, Reverend  MINIABIM HARRY. This followed two separate Motions moved by WIKE and the PDP who are both respondents, challenging the jurisdiction of the tribunal as well as the validity of the petition brought by the SDP and its candidate.

 

The River State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja today rule on motions and applications on the petition of Social Democratic Party and its candidate, Reverend  MINIABIM HARRY. This followed two separate Motions moved by WIKE and the PDP who are both respondents, challenging the jurisdiction of the tribunal as well as the validity of the petition brought by the SDP and its candidate. Counsel to the Petitioners, EMMANUEL AMEH, who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, spoke to correspondent JAMES IGAH outside the courtroom. The rulings has been fixed for 10 AM. The slow speed in the handling of petitions by the Rivers State Election Petitions Tribunal is becoming a source of worry for some stakeholders.

A Port Harcourt-based legal practitioner, KENNEDY AMOS observed that some frivolous motions have been deliberately used to delay the proceedings.

The lawyer who made the observations in an interview with correspondent JUDITH OKAFOR appealed to the tribunal judges to reject applications that are intended to the delay the substantive petitions.
