The Inspector General of Police, SOLOMON ARASE has assured the people of Rivers State of improved security of lives and property.

IGP ARASE made the promise during an interactive session with a cross-section of Rivers stakeholders at the Police Officers Mess in Port Harcourt.

The IGP urged the representatives of various interest groups to use their different platforms to sensitize members of the public on the means to control criminal activities.

Responding on behalf of the stakeholders, the Chairman of the Rivers State branch of the Trade Union Congress, CHIKA ONUEGBU commended the Nigeria Police Force on the fight against criminals.

ONUEGBU also appealed to the Inspector General of Police to create a platform that would facilitate easier interaction with the public on prevailing security challenges in the state.

The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CHRIS EZIKE  has blamed the challenges effective security in the state on the diverse population mix of residents.

CP EZIKE noted  that the high level of industrial and commercial activities encourages an crease in crime, leading to pressure on policing efforts.

Also who spoke; the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone Six, TUNDE OGUNSHAKI commended the IGP for giving the police a sense of direction since his assumption into office.

AIG OGUNSHAKI  said the command is experiencing challenges at the marine base in Calabar, Cross River State and Rivers State where hoodlums carried out attacks on security operatives.
