Regular incidence of death of pregnant women is still a big challenge in rural areas of Rivers State. The situation persists despite the presence of primary health care centres in the communities.

This was the observation of a community based civil society organization known as Right Part Network. The Coordinator of the group, EMEKA MORDI said a baseline survey conducted by his team observed that maternal mortality was still high in the rural areas. MORDI stressed the need for the people to be fully engaged in the developmental activities of the government in order for them to feel the impact of such projects. Correspondent CHINEDU IWUNNA reports that the group promised to continue to track service delivery in the rural areas to ensure that the people are affected positively by the services.
