The Rivers State Police Command says the directive to local government councils to disband traffic monitoring taskforces still stands.

The Commissioner of Police, CHRIS EZIKE renewed the directive in an interview with correspondent UCHENDU EJIOWHOR.

C.P. EZIKE said the local government taskforce are not properly trained on traffic management and cannot effectively contribute to traffic decongestion.

He also said the move became necessary to avoid a clash of interest with the traffic monitoring committee set up by the Police Command with the support of the State Government.

The Commissioner of Police confirmed the deployment of policemen to an oil spill site in Abua-Odual Local Government Area.

C.P. EZIKE said the police are working with the council authorities and traditional rulers to help calm the situation.
