There are indications that the ex-militants in the Niger Delta may be attempting to regroup under the Movement for the Emancipation Niger Delta.

The speculation is driven by a proposed meeting of former Niger Delta freedom fighters in Bayelsa State this weekend.

 

There are indications that the ex-militants in the Niger Delta may be attempting to regroup under the Movement for the Emancipation Niger Delta.

The speculation is driven by a proposed meeting of former Niger Delta freedom fighters in Bayelsa State this weekend.

The meeting is reportedly being promoted by a prominent militant leader from Delta State who had renounced militancy under the amnesty programme of the past administration and also benefitted from lucrative oil pipeline protection contracts of the Federal Government.

Our correspondent gathered that the agenda of the proposed meeting has not been made public, but invitations have been sent to stakeholders across the Niger Delta region.

The convener of the meeting was however quoted as saying it was a very crucial and urgent meeting.
