We acted in self-defence in confrontation with pro-Biafra agitators- Nigerian Army

The Nigerian Army says its soldiers acted in self-defence in the confrontation with pro-Biafra agitators around the Niger Bridge in Onitsha, Anambra State on Monday.


 
 
The Eighty-Two Division of the Nigerian Army stationed in Onitsha said troops invoked the extant Rules of Engagement in a bid to prevent
reinforcement by the pro-Biafran members, during which five of them were killed.
 
 
The Deputy Director of Army Public Relations Officer, Colonel H. A. GAMBO also confirmed that eight others were wounded, while nine were arrested.
 
The Army spokesman alleged that members of the Indigenous People of Biafra and the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra of launching a combined attack on the peace-loving populace as well as security agencies.
