But there are still some interest groups within Ogoni that are not comfortable with the take off of implementation of the United Nations Development Programme’s Report. The opposing group is made up of members the Ogoni Central Indigenous Authority, which claims to be an independent government.
The OCIA said the UNEP Report should have been reviewed, with the Federal Government issuing a White Paper on that basis to ensure continuity of the cleanup exercise, even after the exit of the current APC Administration. The Youth group of OCIA made its position known after a meeting at the Mosop Freedom Park in Bori, which is the headquarters of Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State.OCIA’s Youth Secretary KIEYE BENSON said the demand is based on the revelation by government that the Ogoni cleanup exercise would last for about twenty-five years.
