Rivers State Governor, NYESOM WIKE, has promised to continue to assist security agencies to curb crime and criminals in the state.


Governor WIKE said he has approved the release of four hundred million naira to support facility upgrade for security agencies in the state.
He expressed that once security improves in Rivers State; manufacturing concerns would be able to resume and Rivers people would be offered more job opportunities.Governor WIKE made the call while responding to questions during a town hall meeting in Port Harcourt, in continuation of events to mark his first year in office.Governor NYESOM WIKE also urged Rivers people to make sacrifice for the good of the state in view of prevailing challenges.
Governor WIKE said the State Government has not scrapped its scholarship for law students, but said funds were not available to sustain the programme for now.The Governor also expressed concern that sharp practices had been involved in the payment of bursary to Rivers students in tertiary institutions, through the National Union of Rivers State Students, NURSS.Governor WIKE acknowledged that the rate of cultism in the state was very high, which he said was responsible for the delay in the appointment of a Special Adviser on Students Affairs.He observed that most Rivers youth have developed high taste and are unwilling to pick up jobs that does not pay in millions of naira.Governor WIKE also made efforts to justify the introduction of fees for primary school pupils, stressing that the past administration built hundreds of primary schools but did not provide adequate infrastructure to enable them function effectively.
