Rivers State Election Petition Tribunal Dismisses Labour Party's Application Against Local Government Chairman

The Rivers State Local Government Election Petition Tribunal panel led by Chief Magistrate Betty Sunny-Hart has struck out an experte application by Labour Party and its Chairmanship candidate, Tamunokuro Opusunju against the Opobo Nkoro Local Government Chairman, Clifford Enyiada-Cookey-Gam for lacking in merit.

The Labour Party and its Opobo Nkoro Local Government Chairmanship candidate, Tamunokuro Opusunju had filed an experte motion seeking the court to mandate the first respondent, RSIEC, to release certified true copies of all documents used for October, 5th, 2024 local government election for Opobo Nkoro LGA.

The petitioner also wants the order of court, to permit the petitioner to inspect all the materials used in the election held on the 5th of October, 2024 and to hand over the same copies to the petitioner.

Ruling on the application, the three man panel led by Chief Magistrate Betty Sunny-Hart, struck out the application for lacking in merit, stating that the applicant were not specific on what they wanted, as the exhibit attached contradict relief sought in the motion.

Today fm's Uchendu Ejiowhor reports that the three man panel of the LGA election petition tribunal headed by Chief Magistrate Betty Sunny-Hart advised the applicants to serve the respondents the processes and thereafter, adjourned till 15th of November, 2024 to hear the main petition.

Also the three man panel of the LGA election petition tribunal led by Chief Magistrate, Poromon, adjourned till today to hear a motion filed by the Action Alliance and its Chairmanship Candidate in Obio Akpor Local Government Area, Okechukwu Victor-Amadi against the victory of APP and Chijioke Ihunwo as announced by the RSIEC.
