Port Harcourt Magistrate Court Adjourns Woji vs. Okujiagu Land Suit to November 2024

A Magistrate court sitting in Port Harcourt has adjourned to November 1st, 2024, a suit instituted by a section of Woji community against the Okujiagu community, over alleged trespass, invasion and wilful destruction of properties and cash crops in 2013 on a piece of land belonging to Woji people.

At the resumed hearing, one of the Defence Witnesses and member, Woji council of chiefs, Chief Temple Ejekwu while under cross examination, said no case of invasion, shooting and destruction of Woji land by the Okujiagu community was reported to the paramount ruler of Woji community and the Eze Oha Evo, His Royal Majesty Leslie Eke.

Chief Ejekwu explained that both Woji and Okujiagu communities have shared long years of peaceful and cordial relationship, adding that there had not been any major crisis between them.

The Chief Magistrate Amadi Nna after listening to arguments and cross examination from both defence and prosecution counsels, adjourned till November 1st, 2024 for further cross examination of the witnesses.

Counsel to the first defendant and the Okujiagu community, JOHN OWUBOKIRI who spoke to newsmen after the sitting, said the matter was instituted by some land grabbers in Woji community against the Okujiagu people in 2013.

On his part, the defense lawyer also disclosed that a state magistrate court had earlier decided on the matter in favour of the Okujiagu community but while no appeal was made, the appellate court decided that the matter be remitted back to the magistrate court for retrial.

Chief Ejekwu also reiterated his statement on oat in court that both communities have peaceful relationship over time.
