Commercial drivers in Rivers State and the Obio/Akpor local government Decongestion Committee clashed at Rumuola, resulting in two individuals being hospitalized.

Recall that the drivers threatened to withdraw their services last week due to alleged harassment by the committee.

In response to that threat, the drivers protested today, during which, men led by one Julius Uchenna allegedly attacked them, using bottles to force compliance.

Christopher Ezeali, Publicity Secretary of the Drivers' Welfare Association in Rivers State, confirmed that individuals were deployed today to harass the drivers, alleging that police were also ordered to shoot.

He stated that the shooting had led to the hospitalization of two drivers and damaged several vehicles, just as he called on the state and local governments to intervene, expressing concern that the situation could escalate if no action is taken.

When contacted, Julius Uchenna claimed to be working according to orders from the Obio/Akpor local government chairman, Chijioke Ihunwo.
