Rivers State Government Launches Skill Wave Project to Empower 23,000 Residents
The Rivers State Government has launched the Skill Wave Project, aimed at training and empowering approximately twenty three thousand individuals across the state’s twenty three local government areas.
The Skill Wave Project is a large-scale training initiative by the Rivers State Ministry of Women Affairs, in partnership with the Ministry of Local Government Affairs, focused on providing vulnerable residents with skills for employment generation and poverty alleviation.
Speaking during the launch at the Rivers State Women Development and Skill Acquisition Center, Commissioner for Women Affairs, Apawati Uranta, expressed optimism that the project would significantly enhance the skillset of Rivers residents.
Represented by her Personal Assistant, Rosemary Uranta, the commissioner called for media collaboration to spread the word, especially to those in grassroots communities.
In his remarks, the Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor on Information and Communication Technology, Fenibo Fubara, emphasized the project's role in reducing social vices, curbing youth restiveness, and addressing unemployment in the state.
Fubara assured that the selection process for participants would be free from political interference and that the project would occur in three phases to ensure participants are thoroughly trained in their chosen skills.
